Diamond Getting Devil’s Panties Into a Wad

Every once in awhile I happen across some free time to read some web comic news. I never have to fear finding any drama though. One of my favorite strips, Devil’s Panties, is having a few issues making the $2500 mark for distribution by Diamond. The story starts confused and gets even more confusing as you look into it. As one of the small guys Jennie is going through Diamond to publish her second book. From Jennie:

It should be clarified that it wasn’t 900 dollars but 900 orders that were made. My publisher clarified that to be 835 pre-orders. Continue reading

The 2006 Web Cartoonists’ Choice Awards Swings Into Action

The WCCA has been the premiere web comic award for the past couple of years and there’s good reason. It’s open to anyone and most fans tend to agree, if grudgingly, with the categories and winners. Last year there was a little question of what qualifies as an Anthropomorphic Comic but we’ve got another year to take a swing at it. No worries as your favorite commentators will once again have a special show for you, but let’s if we can’t get that old coot Welton Colbert to join us if he can figure out how to use his phone.

The WCCA announcement:

Least I Could Do Realizes a Dream, Sort Of

If you can remember way back to last summer you can recall a podcast where we interviewed the guys from LICD. They hinted there were big works coming down the pipeline. At first I knew it was the new artist Lar DeSouza and that was big. Then there was big news from Blind Ferret of the CAD animations. But nooooo! The big news has finally arrived in the form of LICD going animated. You’re thinking it’s pretty obvious they would do this considering they are helping produce CAD and the debut of blamimation but they decide to one up everyone.

Webcomics Swag

It’s that time of year when we celebrate political correctness and commercialism. What better way to do that then spending your new found money (which you had already spent buying presents for other people) on the best kind of gift? So here are several ways to make that most important person in your life happy and entertained.

Asylumantics – Chris has put together his third book but instead of printing his archive he’s taking a little different approach. Haunted Pixel Studios is taking pre-orders The Asylumantics: The First Four Years, Continue reading

Press Releases Sure Can Pile Up

If you haven’t figured out by now both Zampzon and myself have slightly obsessive personalities, how else do you think we manage to keep the show going for almost a year? So what do two people like us decide to do when we find we may have an extra bit of free time? We finally break down and buy WoW. That’s right, these are the events that try men’s souls.

PixelStrips – When this little subscription site first appeared on the scene I saw two immediate, yet huge problems. It was too expensive and had less strips then most artist sites. Continue reading

24 Hour a Day Goodness Goes Into the Unknown

Twenty-four comics have become one of the defining tests of web comics artists but how do make your comic stick out when so many others have gone before you? You could always make yours longer and longer until you’re awake so long you can’t tell the difference between reality and the strip you’re drawing. On the other hand instead why not divide up the comic into 24 hour pieces and have your readers vote on the direction for the next week? That is exactly the premise behind Into the Unknown.

Not So Web Comic

I do love writing about the print world shooting it’s own foot. There are two very important stories which most news organizations seemed to have either glossed over or ignored all together.

The first story has so far culminated in what has been dubbed “Black Ink Monday” by the Association of American Editorial Cartoonists. This is an attempt to spotlight the declining use of editorial cartoonist throughout the country. Of particular note are the release of two prominent editorial cartoonists recently let go by the Tribune Company. Continue reading

Web Comic Wrap-up

Sometimes I think I have these wrap-ups so because I don’t have enough time to make through the material itself to do a real report. Then I realize I know myself too well and go back and read the stuff I’m trying to get you to read.

Girl Genius – I haven’t had a chance to read Girl Genius but with all the mentions of it lately I may have to bump it up in the queue. At its current state Phil Foglio has left the strip at a cliffhanger to render a short story but Shaenon K. Garrity called Fan Fiction.

Drunk Duck Has a Little Too Much To Drink

I’m back from vacation and for those few who were interested I was touring the Iberian peninsula. To celebrate the building I’m working in has developed a smoking hole in its firewall so let’s see how many posts I can make.

After so many new collectives there were bound to be some of the older ones with problems. On the tail of the crash and burn of Gutterfly we have the infamous ComicGenesis antagonists Drunk Duck going down for the count. After a serious of plagues such as server problems raining down from the sky and all the strips disappearing into the void Continue reading
