Have you ever wished there was one site, throughout that internet, where you could find everything webcomic? Sure, there is the webcomic wiki, ComixTalk, Fleen, Websnark, and a smattering of other blogs but they all share in one of two limitations we try to eliminate here at Digital Strips. They either don’t have enough information because there are are only a handful of writers behind the scenes or their information doesn’t go deep enough because everyone posts quick pieces of information.
At DS we try to bring you more. We encourage opinionated articles about anything and everything webcomic. Whether you’re a manga fan or dilbert reader. As long as the content is delivered online then we’re interested in what you have to say. What does that mean for you? Well we want you to write for us, and we’re willing to pay for it. You heard me, DS will pay you for your time delivering content to the blog.
First let’s understand there’s no big umbrella company behind us. So don’t think you can quit your day job and surf the rest of your life, although I would like that to happen one day. Before we get to that point we start small. For the time being we pay $2 / post over 200 words. Why the word limit? We like content and thought, and while linkage is good it better a lot of links to warrant a post. For the average college student that can net a good some per month.
But wait, THERE’S MORE!
There are benefits as well. If you’re the type of person who likes conventions and own either a mic or video camera I’ll cover your entrance fees as long as you secure at least 10 interviews of 5 questions or more each. You can even ask the same 5 questions to everyone! Then there’s all the merchandising goodness. From time to time other artists will ask us if we’re interested in their new book, and of course we say yes. That’s a free book, but in case those don’t come around enough I’ll even expense buying books as long as you write a very thorough review.
In the future there may be even more opportunity for profit but that will come down to audience. The more of you join the crew and post content the more likely we are to bring in new readers. The more readers we have the more advertisers will flock to us. Sounds like a winning combination to me!
