Webcomics Examined; Words Pressed

the Webcomics Examiner, bastion of incisive commentary and, dare I say, examination is changing its format from quarterly to weekly… Joe Zabel says so and I believe him.

Propinquitous to the format change are new features arriving in a quantity best described as “multifarious,” including a site search engine, a comments section, and archive indexing.

New format by that cockroach guy.

A Combination of Writing Giants

I meant to post this yesterday when the strip was up but no such luck.

Many times I’ve heard webcomics referred to as a writer’s medium. Even though there are strips out there like PX, Alpha Shade and countless others that have absolutely amazing, beautiful artwork, to me its the writing that brings me back. Of course good writing and artwork do often appear in the same strip. Don’t think that I’m saying anything otherwise.

    Webcomics, D&D and me

I have a bit of a confession to make. Despite being known world wide as The Geek, Ive never played a game of Dungeons and Dragons.

Regardless, several of my favorite webcomics are heavily based in the world of D&D and other pen and paper tabletop role-playing games. I really enjoy strips such as Order of the Stick, Commissioned and Dork Tower even though a lot of their jokes refer to the worlds of these games. This is largely because these strips also rely heavily on characterization, epic storylines and other non-gaming themes that keep me interested. Each of these strips have qualities that make them outstanding outside of the realm of niche strips.

Least I Could Do Realizes a Dream, Sort Of

If you can remember way back to last summer you can recall a podcast where we interviewed the guys from LICD. They hinted there were big works coming down the pipeline. At first I knew it was the new artist Lar DeSouza and that was big. Then there was big news from Blind Ferret of the CAD animations. But nooooo! The big news has finally arrived in the form of LICD going animated. You’re thinking it’s pretty obvious they would do this considering they are helping produce CAD and the debut of blamimation but they decide to one up everyone.

    Three Years of Disassemblance

This week Brian Hart celebrates three years of his comic, Disassemlance, being online. Unfortunately, a personal computer crash coincides with the milestone and the last couple of comic posts haven’t quite been up to the usual high quality. But, three years in the webcomic world is still an accomplishment worth noting. Congrats Brian! You are now a level 3 Webcomic Cartoonist. You will get a +2 Pen of Inking for your troubles.
