Diamond Getting Devil’s Panties Into a Wad

Every once in awhile I happen across some free time to read some web comic news. I never have to fear finding any drama though. One of my favorite strips, Devil’s Panties, is having a few issues making the $2500 mark for distribution by Diamond. The story starts confused and gets even more confusing as you look into it. As one of the small guys Jennie is going through Diamond to publish her second book. From Jennie:

It should be clarified that it wasn’t 900 dollars but 900 orders that were made. My publisher clarified that to be 835 pre-orders. Continue reading

What’s Up With the Digital Strips Comic?

Some of you may be wondering why I haven’t updated the Digital Strips comic in a while. The thing is I’ve been working on something new. I was so inspired by what Scott Kurtz and Chris Straub are doing with Blamimation that I decided to try something similar for our podcast. Wouldn’t it be great to see what we’re talking about as we talk about it? I’m still putting it together, but I should have something to show very soon. We’ll see if this works or not soon enough, but hang tight. At the very least, it should be interesting.

The Evil Network Looking for New Attitude

The Evil Network, a news blog that talks about all things ‘geek’, including webcomics, is having a change of heart. According to Nathaniel Payne they’ve decided that after over five years of being online the Evil Network really isn’t all that evil. So, they are appealing to readers and fans to help them rename the site to something more appropriate. You can find all the details in this post about what they are looking for. If you have any ideas let them know.

The 2006 Web Cartoonists’ Choice Awards Swings Into Action

The WCCA has been the premiere web comic award for the past couple of years and there’s good reason. It’s open to anyone and most fans tend to agree, if grudgingly, with the categories and winners. Last year there was a little question of what qualifies as an Anthropomorphic Comic but we’ve got another year to take a swing at it. No worries as your favorite commentators will once again have a special show for you, but let’s if we can’t get that old coot Welton Colbert to join us if he can figure out how to use his phone.

    The WCCA announcement:

Express Service For a New “Panda” Strip

Panda Xpress is one year old today. Now in and of itself that’s a big milestone but there are so many great webcomics out there that strips have anniversaries all the time. What I’m digging on right now is this new contest that the folks over at PX rolled out to celebrate the big day.

Insert Title here is the temporary name of a strip that PX crew has opened up for readers to completely drive the story. On their forum, they outlined the guidelines for readers to be able to submit scripts for the next strip.

    PC Weenies Gets Animated

It seems as though there’s an animation craze going on in the webcomic world. Krishna’s techno riff comic, PC Weenies, has just dipped it’s toe into the waters of animated shorts with a recent update. The short animates the most recent single panel comic up on the site. It’s a great start, we’ll see where else it might lead to. I really like what he did with the visual, but some audio would be nice too, even if it was just music and sound effect here and there. Looks great though!
