We Love Web Comics 2007

We’ve just posted our 100th podcast and we’re quickly coming up on our 2 year anneversary. I believe we all know what that means. The third annual We Love Web Comics contest is upon us and it’s time to figure out what the prize is going to be.

This year the way it works is I’m throwing in $200 of the site’s money as a base. Here’s where you come in. Anything that get’s sent to me between now and the beginning of the contest gets thrown into the pot. Anything in the pot will be photoed and posted with contest in addition to every single item being listed and linked to on the site.

Atlanta Webtoonist Meet-up

This is something I’ve been meaning to do for quite some time now. Ever since the DC one started up I was frustrated by just how far away DC is from Atlanta. Well I’ve decided to do something about it. If you are interested in joining me in a monthly (or bi-monthly depending on the interest) meeting in Atlanta then leave a comment with your strip and where you are coming from. You can also send an email to me but the more interest people see the larger the crowd.

Web Comic Wrap Up

I was trying to come up with a different title for these posts but the variety sent to us has been all over the place. Everything from reaching an astronomical number of updates, to merchandise, to getting slashdotted.

Goats – I know I’m way behind on this but any milestone as big as reaching 2000 strips deserves acknowledgement. On Nov 27 Jon posted this strip that makes a little more since then most of the strips in the real story. Congrats Jon and we all hope that last panel will some day be more then an hallucination.

Wiki Tyrants or Misguided Fools?

Not to be the last one to talk about it but it’s hard not to say something about a struggle that has been going on for the past 14 months. When I first caught wind of this with the deletion of Outer Circle I was a little surprised at just how many web comics were being marked for deletion. Perhaps the biggest honor was Steve using his being reviewed by our little podcast as one of the reasons the strip was notable enough not to be deleted. The topic was annoying but interesting enough that I felt compelled to participate as a victim myself.

Who Needs Trees?

We all love getting our favorite comics in nice handheld versions and we like them even more when they go on sale. Our current tree-hugging haters are:

Tastefully Done – Tastefully Done, the first ever nude webcomic character’s calendar (a mouthful in itself) is now available from Lulu. Tastefully Done see’s the likes of Ivan Pope, Ali Graham, Gordon McAlpin, Charles Woolbright, Chris Jones, Bryan Chojnowski, Pontus Madsen and Christian Fundin, Fred Grisolm, Philip Spence, Rich Dachtera, Robert Koch, Ramón Pérez and Rob Coughler. The cover being designed by Continue reading

Zoinks! and PC Weenies Expand and Re-Format

I LOVE Thanksgiving! It kills the site but I just can’t resist the food. Thanksgiving is especially good if your parents are divorced and they totally different cultures. The food was outstanding and I was so totally stuffed that I wasn’t able to eat again until Saturday at which point I went back for seconds. What kind of web comic celebrations for this of giving thanks did everyone come across? While you’re pondering that here is some news that’s just burning a hole on the bulletin board.

Web Comic Wrap Up

One of these days I actually go out and find the news like we did when this site first started. Hopefully soon but considering how rl is treating me at the moment the future is looking bleak. For any of you who think my life is interesting you should find yourself a nice white jacket and a round room with rubber walls. Anyways, all life changing events aside I present to you the news in four parts.

Sheldon – Dave Kellett leaves United Media for Self-Publishing. It moved to its new home at Continue reading

Viper Comics Grows A Few More Fangs

For some reason I’ve always liked Viper Comics. It probably has something to do with You’ll Have That but then they seem like the kind of comic company all of could admire. Well they’ve wrapped up their web comic drive and instead of finding just one they’ve accepted 5. That’s taking their current number of 2 to a total of seven. Not bad for some guys who thought web comics would be interesting to get into.

Without further ado we present the new viper web comics:

Bringing The Print World To Your Screen

Every once in awhile Zampzon can’t resist sending me a bit of news that I wouldn’t have found in the normal channels. Considering the latest tidbit came from MacWorld its no wonder his email first exposed it to me. This article brings to light the “rise in digital comics” that is occurring thanks to Marvel releasing it’s old (40 years) comic series in digital format. The writer of this article, Jason Snell, abashedly admits his love for comics and goes on to describe the changing face of comic book companies.

Apparently Marvel has begun releasing complete runs in Continue reading

Web Comic Wrap Up

Just a reminder everyone that we’re still looking for another host on the podcast, especially if you have a background in art. The good news though is I might have found another writer to join the staff but that’s still in the works so keep giving me page views to find out. On to another installation of what’s going on in the world of web comics.

Jim Reaper – It looks like a new web comic from Silent Devil has been announced. Who is Silent Devil Productions? Continue reading
