Digital Strips : Show 93
[13.9 MB]
We return to what might ultimately be described as the best rendered web comic. When we reviewed this strip back on show 83 this gentleman became the most requested interviewee on the show. So sit down for the next hour as I ask a barrage of questions.

In this episode we interview:

  • Scott Christian Sava of The Dreamland Chronicles

    Calling All Writers and Artists

If you’ve noticed we’ve lost a couple writers and even the sexiest voice of the podcast. Well now is the time when Digital Strips is looking to expand its staff once again. That’s right, you now have the opportunity to be on the biggest web comic podcast and/or join the staff of writers acclaimed across the universe.

So here it is, we’re looking for 2 people. The first is a writer who knows Manga as I feel that the site does not do it justice considering it may be larger then gaming comics. That means Continue reading

    Web Comic Wrap Up

It looks like I finally have some news to report that Midnight hasn’t peeked your interest with.

The Front – This is a great superhero comic we reviewed way back on show 18. That brings back memories of the old days when it was weird just to find a superhero comic. Well Jerzy dropped me a line to tell me that he has completed a full-color one-shot story called THE ORIGIN OF JARED. It’s an all-ages story about the mercenary characters from THE FRONT. The bad news though is Continue reading

A Label That Is Anything But Blank

Brad is probably wondering what has happenned to all the news he has been sending me. It probably has something to do with getting the flu for the first time in over 5 years, so here\’s my warning to all of you out there. Stay away from those sickos out there because they can really ruin your week.

Sheldon – Two MONTHS ago I get word that Dave Kellett was invited to be the 'Cartoonist in Residence' at the Charles M. Schulz Museum on Saturday, December 9th. In a format designed to build 'an understanding of cartoonists and cartoon art,' Kellett will be cartooning live explaining how cartoonists approach their unique artform. Continue reading

    Is He Gone Yet?

The contest finally came to an end and it appears no one actually believed he left. There are a few of you though that sent in your entries and all of them were great. Fortunately for me though there can be only one winner or I’d be out a lot more money. Before I go on all I have to say is thank goodness the winner stopped drawing me naked. They may what was holding him back from this masterpiece. So who is the winner? It would be this entry: Continue reading

    Bring Down The Trees

While going through our email I noticed a lack news being sent to us. Then I slapped myself in the face and remembered everyone has been faithfully submitting news through the site. Boy do I feel like an idiot. Perhaps you will forgive as I empty out the queue on the tail of traffic coming from the Times?

Elf `n Troll – There are now five books from the unexhaustible AP Furtado. Each book is 24 pages long while the fifth book takes you on the wonderful story of what happens when you have an angry Troll, a missing Elf, a mysterious warrior, a pack of crazed Goblins, and a malevolent witch? DrunkDuck Goes Platinum

A couple months ago I got a phone call from guys at Platinum studios asking if I would be interested in promoting the Comic Book Challenge. Most of you probably realize that our advertising tends to focus mainly on web comics so instead I asked if we could have an interview, thus I ended up getting Scott Rosenberg on the phone for a good hour. There was no reason why that wasn’t going to be the end of the conversation, but after the interview Scott and the rest of his company gathered together to pepper me with questions about web comics.

    Not Exactly Web Comics

Usually we don’t like reporting on topics which don’t single out web comics as the greatest art form but on occasion there is news out there that we simply can’t ignore.

How many of you remember the controversy over the Prophet Mohammad cartoons? Here at DS we had a particularly heated discussion on the whole topic of freedom of speech and just how responsible one should be with it. In Europe and the Middle East there were both demonstrations and full out riots in which 50 people died. Perhaps the most interesting reponse came from a competition launched in Iran where everyone was invited to create cartoons about the Holocaust. Continue reading

To Be A Game Or Create A Game

There’s two pieces of gaming news that Digital Strips just can’t resist for long. I’m laughing at myself as well as I realize just how late I am telling you about these two games.

The first bit of news you have to have heard of by now because I’m just now writing about it. Two weeks ago I caught this little piece of news from the GameDaily Biz. Penny Arcade and Hothead Games have joined together to create a series of Penny Arcade webcomic-based games. The first is Penny Arcade Adventures: On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness and will be available via digital download. The guys behind Hothead Games Continue reading

    Greek l33t Speak

One of the biggest concepts we have tried to tackle has always been figuring out the right business model. Once you’ve created your web comic what do you need to do to make what you love your living? The first obvious answer is advertising but then most comics have found that is not enough unless you have a huge number of readers. What is the second option? Merchandising of course! To give it a try we have an idea for a t-shirt that might appeal to a large number of not just our readers but the entire web comic community and more. Before we take the time to build a store, design the final shirt, and make ridiculously large orders I want to make sure enough of you out there think I’m not crazy.
