What Do You Do When No One Cares?

You go and pay some of the biggest mouths in the industry to do your talking for you.

It all started around 54 years ago when the CCA was created in response to “public concern” that was stirred up in the early 50’s. As a result we had the first self censorship in the entertainment industry. This also started a trend followed by movies\tv in 1968 and the gaming industry in 1994. What was the result of this rating? Well a bunch of letters most parents don’t pay attention to. I can almost gauruntee 99% of you reading this have either seen a R rated movie before you were 13 or played an M rated game before you were 17.

A Darkness So Deep It's Crimson

Whoever said you can only survive 30 seconds in space was not taking into consideration human ingenuity. Augment your respiratory system and you can bump that up till someone rescues you outside the realm of probability. That's how this new web comic enters the world. Crimson Dark, by David C. Simon, is the first web comic to take advantage of the new advertising campaign and I couldn't have been happier. It's a science fiction graphic novel form strip which centers on the female character Commander Kari, a hero who has retired herself away from the front lines to patrol runs is just beginning to find out heroes are not so easily shelved.

Web Comic Wrap Up

PC Weenies – PC Weenies Hit 900 at the beginning of this week. The PC Weenies, the venerable technology toon written by Krishna M. Sadasivam, hits its 900th toon on Monday, August 7th. With bona fide adult content (a first!). You’ll laugh. You’ll cry. You’ll wish you were at Walmart. Don’t say you weren’t warned.

Blade Kitten – Blade Kitten is finally killing some trees. After a couple of years of nothing but net Steve Stamatiadis finally decided to release the first collection of Blade Kitten as a print edition. It’s like having a website that you can carry around in your hands and can be read using any available light source.

Welcome to the New Digital Strips!

Some of you might have heard the rumors already or maybe figured it out on your own since we weren’t being exactly secretive but we are proud to announce the new Digital Strips. The most obvious change is the front which we hope is more streamlined. The biggest change though is the use of WordPress as our blogging tool which we hope will make your experience every bit as good as DS is for us.

Not everything is finished though and we plan to roll out more of the new site as we go along but we felt that we could not hold back any longer and so here you go. You will find right from the get-go we have two new submission policies for everyone. Continue reading

Yirmumah! Goes To Keenspot

That title looks a little more boring then the Napoleon Dynamite quote I was trying to rip off. The web comic community loves Keenspot, whether it’s in complete awe of their presence or a hate born of jealousy. Whichever camp you belong in I’ll be the first to admit he’s at the top of the game when it comes to marketing. On the heels of losing Sinfest and the imminent creation of the Geekfur collective the Keen 4 have made a serious of announcements at Comic-Con that left me all squishy.

You’ll Have Everything!

PookeyG had a little post awhile ago about selling more then t-shirts and it looks like Wes is using the third highest money-maker. He’s going to start selling archival prints of You’ll Have That. The catch is he needs to sell at least 6 prints in order to purchase the mailing materials. All the artwork will be printed on glossy, 8 X 10 photo paper. Almost all of the comic strips are available to be printed.

The second little joy Wes has for us is the uploading of old YHT comics that were previously only in his message boards every Saturday and Sunday starting July 15. So stop by for the first in a series of comics he calls You’ll Have That: The Lost Episodes. Lastly You’ll Have That caught the attention of Wizard Magazine!

Sinfest Having Its Own Festival Of Sin

There are so many web comics out there and most of them so much alike they are starting to blend. Despite the over abundance of roommate based strips there are the few and far between such as Sinfest which I can’t relate to but read simply because of the good writing and art. I’ve always enjoyed Tatsuya Ishida’s delightful black and white strip and you find one of the first reviews on DS was about Sinfest.

The big news, first found in the forums of Comixpedia, Continue reading

Support Digital Strips

A couple of months ago I noticed that we were getting less interest in those looking to buy ad space while at the same time more corporations were sending us email wondering what kind of traffic we had in case they wanted to buy space. Of course time has passed and lately we’ve been lucky to have ANY spots taken. Our traffic has never been better and yet we seem to have some disease that keeps everyone away.

This leads me to believe two things. We either don’t offer enough incentive for you to support us our we have a bad structure for buying ad space. Continue reading

ConnectiCon – A Report

2005 was our first convention and we were impressed. If there is anything about ConnectiCon that I like it’s the treatment they have for Web Comic artists. They are always treated well even if their tier system is a little out of whack. The tier system made a huge fuss last year and I don’t think it changed much.

After being their two years in a row I think they could make it a little easier to get at least entrance. After attending the NY ComicCon the Dealer’s room looked a bit small and could use a few more artist’s but then I walked around the hallway to the side and found the Artist’s Colony. At first I found this to be very annoying but then warmed up to it when I found I didn’t have to deal with the vendors when I wanted to talk to the artists.
