Web Comic Wrap-up

Yep, it’s another post from me today. I bet your wondering just how I managed to do that when I’ve been so consistently absent. Well I’m not going to tell you the story of breaking free from the chains of oppression and answered those questions three that were asked of me. So sit back as I pour through a long list of tasks and fill up your RSS feeder with my random babblings.

Elf `n Troll – I don’t know how Tony keeps it up but he’s completed his fourth serial for this delightful fantasy strip. Continue reading

Here is Where We Toot Our Horns

The site may have been empty recently but the staff has had its hands full. Shall we do the rounds?

Bomb Shelter Comics – I know what you’re thinking. Is this another podcast talking about comics? What the hell is wrong with that? There’s a new collective out there and they’re leaving no marketing stone unturned. On their third podcast they even got in touch with me and asked if I could join them. While you’re listening be sure to check out some of the members such as Leftville, Today, Combustible Orange, and Chooken.

Who Says You Can’t Be A Winner?

If there’s one thing I like about digital media it’s how easy it is to have a contest. Here’s three that have popped up on my radar.

Please Rewind – The re-launch of Please Rewind coincides with several new promotions of which being on the cover of Zoinks! is the just the icing on the cake. Chris Cantrell is also having a contest where the winner gets a $50 gift certificate to Blockbuster and $50 for Fandango. That’s like 2 whole movies! Submit your guest strip to win.

You’ll Have That – I’ve always thought selling artwork was a great gauge of just how loyal your fans are and just how far your reach is. It looks like Wes is taking just that chance by putting up five pieces on eBay. There are only 2 days left so hurry up and make your bid as a big thank you for Wes’s great strip.

Simulated Comic Product – One of our earliest fans has just made it out of kindergarten. Not only has it pasted the 100th comic mark but it’s been around for a year and joined our favorite little community in Transplant Comics.

My Extra Life – I finally get some time to take a look at Scott Johnson’s new tutorial on how he makes his comic. Don’t you know it’s down? I wonder if it was the video itself that broke its back. Anyways the whole concept sounds fantastic and fits perfectly with the concept of web comics. Why? because our readers want their entertainment in short bursts and this little recording does exactly that. Its basically an entire video of Scott creating a new ExtraLife comic, but all sped up with narration.

Ninja Bunny – This little comic was sent to me in celebration of its 100 strip. What is the strip about? The name practically gives it away. Mike Hull has started a new blog that has a lot of potential. Webcomics in Print is all about the world of web comics in the form environmentalists hate most.

Web Comic Wrap-up

Why do I keep getting all this email about web comics? Oh that’s right, we have a blog covering the world of webcomics. You’d think after the amazing traffic over the past couple weeks you would think I would get it through my head. On to the news!

Rainbow Orchid
– What’s this? There’s another site dedicated to covering comics. It may need to narrow it’s field a little to the next wave of the future but it’s nice it was introduced to me in reference to a web comic. The artist behind Rainbow Orchid, Garen Ewing, was interviewed and posted for your reading pleasure.

Web Comics In the Media

It’s always a beautiful thing when web comics appear in the media. Typically that media is the newspaper but every once in awhile it’s TV and then my eyes get big. Why do we hunger for such attention? We have our own media but it’s being mentioned by the NY Times or on the talk box that we truly aspire to. Therefore the question is how to do it?

It looks like the strip Wulffmorganthaler, which we reviewed back I don’t remember when, was mentioned on the Daily Show. Continue reading

[News] Where Are All The Trees?

I’ve always wondered the reasoning behind putting a web comic in print. The most successful web comics all have their content for free, so why put all your content in an inarguably less accessible form? Of course you could always carry a book around to more places you have internet access but I’m lazy. That makes me think it’s for a more sentimental or possibly even charitible but then I’ll assume most of you are just as selfish as myself. I just like to show everyone just how well read I am.

[Contest] And We Have a Winner!

When we said we were going to announce the winner of the contest over the weekend I couldn’t help but laugh maniacally that it was April 1st. Just how bad of a comic could we make and say was the winner? Then the whole work thing got in the way and here we are. We had a plethora of entries with a particular contestant submitting 13 different ones.

Who then are the winners? The first prize goes to the entry picked by Zampzon, Phil Kahn, 7, Mr. Hian, and myself as our favorite. There were several really good strips ranging Continue reading

[News] Web Comic Wrap Up

Now that the contest is closed we’re ready to get back to the business that is web comic news.

Komikwerks – Every time these guys get quiet I only sit back in anticipation as I know there’s only good news on the horizon. A couple weeks ago was no exception. Two webcomics have joined it’s roster in THE FRONT by Jerzy Drozd and PPV by Drozd and writer Tom Root. You may remember our review of The Front which make rank as our favorite superhero comic.
