[Post] You’ll Have That Has Decided To Keep That

I got this disturbing bit of news from Mr. Wes Molebash. Apparently after being in webcomics all this time the drama inherent in the system has been repressing him, but no more. You should enjoy this little press release:

If any of you guys follow webcomics and webcomic-related news, you’ll notice that there’s a lot of drama in webcomics. There’s name-calling, whining, complaining, and playa-hating. It’s like high school, really. But I’ve noticed that a lot of the webcomics that are involved in a lot of drama are actually some of the more popular strips on the internet. So, I’ve decided to start a little drama of my own in hopes of getting a little more publicity. Here goes:

[News] Eyeskream Adds Three More Flavors

Our friends over at Eyeskream have finally decided on a cap on just how many members are allowed. I personally think it should have been 31 but trademarks aside the magic number is going to be 25. That left just three spots after taking into account their contest but wouldn’t you know their anouncement of a membership limit coincides with reaching that limit as well. Eyeskream has recently accepted 3 new members in their ranks:

– Lee Swain of Flat Life
– Jeff Mumm of Obscured by Species
– Adam Marien of The Mulberry Gallows Project

So go take a look at the newbies and don’t forget to jump in on the contest.

[News] Bifscratch?

We just got the heads up on a new musing from Bif and Frank over at Bifsniff Cartoons. They’re looking for guest artists to participate in a kind of guest strip bonanza where the guest artist reinterprets a Bifsniff Cartoon from the first year. There are restrictions of course. You’ll have to consider scalability and file-size so that they can be scaled down to fit into their blog feed, but everything else is pretty open. If this sounds interesting give the guys a shout and flood them with questions.

[Contest] We Love Webcomics 2!

Weekly reminder of our HUGE contest. The annual Digital Strips ‘We Love Webcomics’ contest is running strong but we’re predicting at least twice the participation this year. Don’t forget this year’s prizes can be won in two ways. The first prize will go to our favorite comic and Nominations will be based on art and writing, but most importantly creativity. The second prize is in memory of last year’s contest and is a random drawing from all the entries. EVERYONE has an equal chance to win!

[News] Web Comic Wrap-up

Time to clear out our little mailbox. I can still remember the days when we would go out looking for the news. Now we’re just lucky to make it through what gets submitted. Sometimes I wonder if we should just take the Comixpedia way but then I remember what some of our fans told us when we were first looking for extra writers. There’s Comixpedia for everyone, and then there’s sites like us where people go for opinions even if they disagree. Well here’s to trying to keep up with our little community.

Infinite Digital Strip

Hear I was thinking that I would be able to post an example of this for everyone but I’m starting to learn just how finicky artists really are. That’s what I get for thinking I had 6 and now I have 2. You’ll just have to wait for the proof of concept but at the very least I can tell you about my experiment.

So here is my Infinite Digital Strip. It expands upon the concept of the “Infinite Canvas” as proposed by Scott McCloud. My inspiration is the understanding that web pages are not infinite in the manner McCloud believes. Continue reading

[News] Brad Guigar Turns Six Years Old

The web comics industry is relatively young when compared to every other comics medium. That’s why it’s so nice to have a few veterans around we can point to as examples of who is getting it done and doing it right. One of those is Brad Guigar who is arguably one of the most influential people in web comics last year. February 14 marked six years of daily webcomics which started with his original strip, Greystone Inn, on February 14, 2000, and has updated every Monday-through-Saturday ever since with few exceptions.
