Twenty-four comics have become one of the defining tests of web comics artists but how do make your comic stick out when so many others have gone before you? You could always make yours longer and longer until you’re awake so long you can’t tell the difference between reality and the strip you’re drawing. On the other hand instead why not divide up the comic into 24 hour pieces and have your readers vote on the direction for the next week? That is exactly the premise behind Into the Unknown.

Not So Web Comic
I do love writing about the print world shooting it’s own foot. There are two very important stories which most news organizations seemed to have either glossed over or ignored all together.
The first story has so far culminated in what has been dubbed “Black Ink Monday” by the Association of American Editorial Cartoonists. This is an attempt to spotlight the declining use of editorial cartoonist throughout the country. Of particular note are the release of two prominent editorial cartoonists recently let go by the Tribune Company. Continue reading
Web Comic Wrap-up
Sometimes I think I have these wrap-ups so because I don’t have enough time to make through the material itself to do a real report. Then I realize I know myself too well and go back and read the stuff I’m trying to get you to read.
Girl Genius – I haven’t had a chance to read Girl Genius but with all the mentions of it lately I may have to bump it up in the queue. At its current state Phil Foglio has left the strip at a cliffhanger to render a short story but Shaenon K. Garrity called Fan Fiction.
Drunk Duck Has a Little Too Much To Drink
I’m back from vacation and for those few who were interested I was touring the Iberian peninsula. To celebrate the building I’m working in has developed a smoking hole in its firewall so let’s see how many posts I can make.
After so many new collectives there were bound to be some of the older ones with problems. On the tail of the crash and burn of Gutterfly we have the infamous ComicGenesis antagonists Drunk Duck going down for the count. After a serious of plagues such as server problems raining down from the sky and all the strips disappearing into the void Continue reading

![]() Digital Strips : Show 50 [4.5 MB] |
In this episode of Digital Strips Zampzon flies solo. Daku is on vacation in Europe and Zampzon is traveling in Mexico with very spotty internet access. But, Zampzon traveled prepared uploading several comics to his laptop to take with him for just such an occasion. That’s just the kind of dedicated trooper he is. Zampzon reviews two excellent comics this week:
Here are the comics we talk about this week:

Niego No More
Jason Sigala of Niego has decided to end his strip, stating he has lost the love for the strip. Sigala also said that he will stay on with Boxcar Comics – of which Niego was a member – as an alumni.
Boxcar hasn’t announced their plans for a replacement (if any) yet.
You can read the final Niego strip here or the farewell post in Sigala’s Livejournal page.
Child’s Play Raises More Than $200,000
That’s right, $200,000.
That’s a lot of money and it’s going to make a lot of sick gets really happy.
Here’s the best part, we’re not even half way through December yet. There is still a lot of time for the webcomics and gaming communities to turn some heads and do some good.
If you’re like me and haven’t donated yet, go lend a hand. If you have, check out the official Child’s Play website, and feel good about what you’ve done.
Here Comes Trouble. Hey, Mr. Wilson!
I trust that you fans (I’m going to call you “Digital Strippers” from now on) recall that Joey Manley has a regular column at El Pulse and that some people even claim it is good.
Most recently, real estate mogul Manley has writ on the subject of the Top 5 Troublemakers in Webcomics, essentially a gossip column… I prefer to call it Because the Stakes Are So Small.
Scott Kurtz, who has asked to remain anonymous, had this to say.
Absence Making the Heart Grow Fonder
Sorry for the lack of attention recently folks. Both Daku and I are on the road for the next week. Daku is in Europe and I’m in Mexico. I didn’t expect stable web access was going to be so hard to find. I’m actually posting this from a PDA connected to a cell phone.
Anyway, I get beck to Philly next week and then I’ll be heading off to Ireland, so this whole month will be pretty spotty in terms of hearing from me. We’re going to do our best to keep the shows coming out on time. Continue reading
Serious Topics In Wecomics And Other News
I’m always trying to get more of my friends to get into webcomics. A common concern is that a lot of people crave more in depth and powerful story telling that touches on real issues. If you know anyone who has these concerns, send them over to Questionable Content.
While new readers won’t be as affect since they won’t be as attached to Jeph Jaques characters as regular readers they will still find a powerful story in progress.
