The hugely successful Webcomic Hurricane Relief Telethon, organized by Brad Guigar and Blank Label Comics, has now passed. But, the effort continues. The site for the telethon will remain up and available for the foreseeable future and the next stage of charity is at hand. Blank Label Comics has collected many of the comics that were used in the telethon into a printed collection and now you can order the book.
During the recent Webcomic Telethon for hurricane relief I submitted a comic strip to be a part of the event and to help out. You can view it on the telethon site by clicking here. I was proud to take part in such an important effort and such a big event in web comics.

Today is Talk Like A Pirate Day (www.talklikeapirate.com) and what great timing. We just so happen to have the perfect way for you to celebrate. We have a list of over 300 web comics that talk about pirates. So, while you are “Aarg-ing” and “Avast-ing” around your places of business all day enjoy a long list of web comics to help celebrate this special holiday.
Here is this week’s comic. I know it’s a little wordy this time around, but this comic is a little cathartic for me. Before I get 50 emails from people all claiming that I’m making fun of them in the strip just know that this scenario has played itself out many times since we’ve started doing what we do.

Ok, I take back all my bad thoughts about Lulu.com. If you recall, the recent 168 Hour Comic event staged by modern day troubadour Ryan Estrada resulted in a big publishing mess when Ryan tried to put the project, Ped X-Ing, into book form using Lulu. We wrote a story about the whole thing last month.
Yesterday I received an email from Lulu and I’m sure everyone else who tried to buy Ryan’s book when it first went online got a similar message. Continue reading
As you all know the Webcomic Telethon has been running for the past two days, updating the site every 20 minutes with new comics donated from cartoonists across the web and asking people to donate to the Red Cross Hurricane Katrina relief effort. According to Brad Guigar, telethon organizer and patron saint of web comics, the response has been so big and so positive the telethon has been extended by at least a day. Over $26,00.00 has been raised so far making this whole effort a resounding success. Continue reading

Right after I post about the Small Press Expo I get another press release from them about their Ignatz Awards. I had wondered in my last post whether or not there would be a web comic presence and this new press release answers that question. The Ignatz awards include an award for online comics. This month is the Small Press Expo held in Maryland, an event for independent comic publishers of all sorts of work. I’m not sure what the web comic presence will be like, or if any web comic presence will be there, but all independent cartoonists should be familiar with the work of Harvey Pekar. The excellent and surreal play on words single panel comic BifSniff has entertained me for a while now. It was a very early weekly pick of mine, we talked about it on our 7th show, and I’ve read it ever since. There’s also an interesting blog on the site that does a good job of debating and editorializing happenings in the web comic world.
