Digital Strips: The Comic, Fan Mail

Here is this week’s comic. I know it’s a little wordy this time around, but this comic is a little cathartic for me. Before I get 50 emails from people all claiming that I’m making fun of them in the strip just know that this scenario has played itself out many times since we’ve started doing what we do.

When you send us an email asking for a review of your strip you have to be prepared to take the bad with the good. I’m sure everyone who writes reviews runs into this eventually. Considering we are talking about a whole community of sensitive artists this situation seems unavoidable. There are plenty of artists and writers out there that have really thin skin. When you publish your work to the whole world, though, you have to be prepared that not everyone is going to be into your stuff. All you can do is try to find value in the criticisms, take from it what seems worth reflecting on, and move on.

  1. Well, I had planned to re-start my webcomic to catch some of the \”September Syndrome\” traffic, but after reading your comic today, and taking a long hard look at my archives, I felt that your \’review\’ of Supernewb\’s website was strangely accurate when applied to my site as well and took down my archives. I\’ll be crying over my keyboard for the rest of the day to complete the effect.

In all seriousness, keep up the GREAT work, I always look forward to your podcasts and someday when I actually do restart my webcomic I look forward to having you rake my strip over the coals.

  2. Actually, I\’d be pretty pissed if that was the kind of review you gave me. You essentially said \”You suck\” and gave only the slightest of reasonings behind that comment. I know you need to limit what is said in a speech bubble or you end up with no room for a character, but I feel this comic just comes across as making you look like an ass trying to play himself as a professional. What bothers me the most is that I don\’t see you in that light at all so the comic really doesn\’t work for me.

blah blah blah, I talk lots 😀
