I See Your Bitch Slap and Raise You a Smack Down, Documentary Drama Plods On

No need to recap, all the details on this web comics documentary was only a few posts ago, so scroll down if you don’t know what I’m talking about.

We have a few updates in the latest unfolding internet drama. First and foremost is a public reply to the comments made by Tycho of Penny Arcade from one of the creators seen in the film, Cayetano Garza Jr. In a post to his personal blog Cayetano states, “… i’ve tried to keep my blog and my life unsullied of the egotistical ramblings of a couple of Continue reading

Web Comics Documentary Causes Community Backlash

It seems that the web comics community loves nothing more than to come across something that really pisses them off. Everyone gets all riled up and the keyboards let fly. People just love a good scandal. So, allow me to jump into the fray with two feet.

Last week the trailer for an upcoming independent documentary film about web comics went online. The film is titled “Adventures into Digital Comics” and is being produced by Continue reading

Chronicles of Garas Announces Chapter 2 Complete

We got word today that the guys over at The Chronicles of Garas just completed chapter two of their very impressive fantasy based epic. The graphic novel style comic features impressive style and compelling storytelling and shows a great deal of effort and love of the comics form. I highly recommend everyone go have a look. While you’re there be sure to let Mark and Elshad know what you think of their stuff.

Contest Entry Clarification

We got a complaint about how there wasn’t a contest entry posted with this week’s show announcement and before anyone jumps to the wrong conclusion let me explain. All the contest entries will be posted along with the show announcements each week. Yes, I skipped this week because some coding still needed to be done surrounding the gallery section of the site.

For those of you who care, most of the code you see on DigitalStrips.com, if you look under the hood, is being dynamically generated. Continue reading

Contest Entries on Display

The effort to get the site finished is continuing. Today I completed the pages of the contest entries in our gallery section. As most of you know we held a contest a little while ago in which we asked participants to come up with a comic that involved either us or our show. You can now go and check out all the entries we received for the contest in one easy to find place. The winner is listed first and all the other entries appear in the order we received them (this seemed like the most diplomatic way to do it). So, check them out and enjoy. Continue reading

All Web Comic Picks in One Place

I’ve been working hard to get the site all finished and looking spiffy. Apart from some minor code tweaks here and there I just completed our links section. A popular request we’ve gotten for the site was an online list of all the web comics we’ve talked about on the show since we started it in one easy to find place. That is up there now, all the comics we’ve ever discussed in depth can be found there and will be updated as we do new shows. As you look through them all the differences in our tastes in comics becomes quite clear. Continue reading

Web Comics Growing in Widgets, Convenience or Robbery?

If you’re a Mac user or a PC user with the program Konfabulator then you know what a “widget” is. For those of you who don’t know, a widget is a tiny program that can appear on your screen very quickly to perform it’s specific purpose, usually to inform you of the weather or stock prices.

These widgets are written in JavaScript and can be created relatively easily. Recently there have been a few additions to the widget library that focus on web comics. Continue reading
