CONTEST WINNER !!!

We have a winner! As announced on show 15 of the Digital Strips Podcast the big winner of our ‘We Love Web Comics Contest’ has been announced. The winner is Crash, the artist behind the web comic Cheshire Grin. Crash was selected during a random drawing of all the entries we received which we did live on show 15. The winning entry is posted on the front page of our site and will remain there throughout all the posts of everyone else’s entry. That should take about a month.

Crash will be receiving a big pile of printed web comic books worth over $120.00. You can see all the books being given away on our contest page. Congratulations go to Crash and make sure you all stop by Cheshire Grin to see the web comic this entry comes from.

We want to thank everyone who sent in an entry to the contest. You all helped to make this a big success. Crash’s entry will be posted on our front page all week and every other entry will get a blog post each day starting next week. A permanent contest entry page will go up next week as well, so everyone can see each other’s work. Thanks everyone!

Contest Comes to a Close

Well, that’s it folks. The contest entry line is now closed. All entries sent before this post went online have been accepted, but no more entries will be accepted from here on out.

We want to thank everyone who sent in a submission, we got a lot of really great material here. Next week we will start posting everyone’s submissions publicly and gathering them into a single contest entry page. This whole thing was a lot of fun and we will certainly be doing something like this again in the future.

We Love Web Comics Contest Coming to a Close!

This is it folks. The We Love Web Comics Contest will be over soon. Today is the last day we will be accepting entries, so if you are still furiously sketching, inking, and coloring better kick it into overdrive. Remember that we are on the East Coast of the US, so if you are in Australia or the UK and you think it’s too late it may not be.

So far, this contest has been quite a success. We have had a lot of fun looking at all the cool and funny comics people have come up Continue reading

Digital Strips IRC Room

I’d like to announce to everyone the opening of our very own IRC room. It seems we have some fans over on Cadnet and they have very graciously created a room for us and Digital Strips fans to come together and discuss what we do and web comics on general. So, a very special thanks goes out to Sionide and Xenon for setting this up.

First of all, head over the Cadnet homepage to learn all about their excellent IRC network. If you want to connect to our chat room quickly via a Java app simply click here. Or, if you know your way around IRC, you can use any IRC client and connect to irc.cad-net.org port 6667 and jump into the room #digitalstrips.

This is a very cool thing. Watch this site and listen to our show for future announcements about events that we will hold in the IRC room. Maybe we can schedule a weekly time to be there to talk about our most recent show. Daku and myself will be popping in and out throughout the week I’m sure.

On a Personal Note

You may or may not have noticed that I haven’t posted a whole lot to the blog this week. The reason for that can be summed up in two words, Jade Empire. I have been totally sucked up into this game and when the decision comes down to posting about web comics or playing more Jade the choice invariably comes down to which activity involves swinging fists of fury. Hopefully I will have it beat soon and I’ll be able to return to my normal life. Love the game, highly recommend it.

RPG World Step by Step

Following along with my “How To” posts we next have a look at the excellent process explanation found over at RPG World. Ian J. takes the read all the way through his process for creating his comic beginning with the pencil sketch.

Ian uses a non-photo blue pencil to rough out the comic first. For those that don’t know, non-photo blue won’t be picked up by scanners when you scan the image in “black & white” mode. This means Ian can ink over the pencil drawings and not have to worry about erasing the pencil work. Continue reading
