The very talented Mr. Wes Molebash, creator and artist behind the online comic You’ll Have That, has just announced the start of a contest he is holding. Each person who enters needs to send in some creative background details about him or herself and they could end up in the comic as a character. Apart from the guest appearance the winner will be deluged with a pile of swag from Viper Comics.

iTunes Now Manages Podcasts, Search for “Comics” Reveals Related Shows
While this post isn’t exactly about web comics specifically, listeners of our show and others like it might find it interesting. Apple has decided to fully embrace the concept of podcasting and has updated it’s popular music management app and online music store, iTunes, accordingly. If you update to the latest version of iTunes you’ll see a new playlist icon for podcasts and you can use that section of the app to subscribe to any podcast RSS/XML feed.
Web Comics Creation Videos
In my web comic trawl this evening I had the fortune to come across some very cool online videos. I love coming across web comic sites that include a section about how the cartoonists create their comics. In these two cases the cartoonists made videos in which you can see their process from start to finish as it happens.
First up, Krishna of PC Weenies has just recently posted the video “How I Draw The PCW (Part 1)“. Continue reading
Anthony P. Furtado’s Underground Pop Launches
We got word from artist Anthony P. Furtado that he has recently launched Underground Pop, an online collection of all his various comic works. This impressive and well polished collection features several very different stories and settings that, as far I’ve seen, are all very entertaining. So far, “Brain Fish” has been my favorite.
Here is the announcement in Anthony’s own words,
Re-Introducing Zampzon and Daku
The more observant of you may notice a slight change to our logo and character icons in the blog posts. I redesigned the Zampzon and Daku characters to make them more, hmm, comic-ish. The other ones weren’t quite right for playing around.
To help launch the characters I created three comic strips with them to just try them out. So here are the very first Digital Strips : The Comic:
Ocular Trauma Seeks Guest Strips
Long time listener and supporter of the Digital Strips podcast, Wade Clarke, has let us know about a contest he is holding for his web comic Ocular Trauma. Wade is asking for people to submit guest comics from which a random selection will be made as the winner. Wade’s comic is a daily, single panel gag comic that usually deals with absurdist, sometimes dark, humor.
He describes his comic as such, ‘One panel every weekday of contemporary/ absurd/ vile/ cute/ strange/ poignant/ laughy humour, Continue reading
Washington Post Article About Web Comics
The Washington Post is running an article by Leslie Walker about web comics. The article was written to cover the recent attempt, and declared failure, of Goats.com to use micropayments, but the article goes on to cover the web comics community in general and discusses several artists who are making a living on their web comics. The article ends up being pretty optimistic on the future of comic art on the internet.
Blank Label Comics Video Online
The intrepid group of web comic creators who jumped the Keenspot ship to form Blank Label Comics have just posted a video to their site that I’m sure everyone will get a big kick out of. The video short is designed to look like the old news reels from the 40’s and 50’s and announce the formation of Blank Label Comics. The footage includes video of each of the creators and a launch party they held for their site. The video is very tongue in cheek and light on any actual details, but it is sure worth a download. The narrator has the joke down perfectly, very funny stuff.
Outer Circle Reaches 100 Strips
The very clever web comic The Outer Circle has reached 100 strips today. In celebration of the milestone Steve Napierski, the strips creator, is attempting a series of comic trip art homage panels. Over the next few days of his strip he will be attempting to mimic the art styles of many different popular comics. Today’s update includes a panel in which Steve draws his characters to look like Fox Trot cartoons. This looks like a lot of fun. I think Steve is doing a great job and I look forward to seeing what else he comes up with.
Keenspace Changes Name to “Comic Genesis”
This story was sent in to us from Brian Simpson via a post by Teammayhem on Korsil.net:
Keenspace will be getting a new name. The new name, Toonspace, was smacked down by the artists on the thread, and they were allowed to get a new name. Thus, the new name will be ComicGenesis. A quick WhoIs search turns up that the name is indeed registered to Keenspot.
