Web Comic Toilet Humor … Literally

Cartoonists are traditionally a zany bunch of folks. Due to their chosen profession, or hobby, they tend to find humor in places other people tend not to look, which of course makes their work so entertaining. They also tend to express that humor in interesting ways as well.

Which brings me to Scott Johnson, the cartoonist behind the excellent web comic Extra Life. Scott has chosen a new medium for his work and he wishes to share it with the world … well, the world’s bathroom. Continue reading

Announcing the Digital Strips Forum

We now have an online forum. The fine folks over at Transplant Comics have been good enough to provide us with some online space to host a forum for fans and listeners of the Digital Strips podcast. There’s now a place for everyone to go and post about our episodes or web comics in general.

Transplant Comics is a web comic community, offering easy hosting options to everyone looking to start a web comic. They have an active Bulletin Board, full of web comic fans and creators. We would really like to thank the guys of Transplant Comics for adding space there for Digital Strips. I hope people find it a fun place. Enjoy.

Save ConnectiCon

While reading through the various wrap ups of ConnectiCon that artists have been posting I discovered a big problem. The history behind ConnectiCon recently has been somewhat shaky in terms of finances. The multi-genre convention used to be housed on a college campus, but had to be moved due to a sudden increase in the fees charged by the college.

This year it was held in the brand new Hartford Convention Center and while attendance was very solid the financial take from the con Continue reading

Emergency Request to our Fans

I have a very selfish request to all our readers and listeners who may be attending the San Diego Comic Con. If you are planning on attending I’d like someone to go and get a signed sketch from Scott Kurtz of PVP Online of Brent or Francis listening to Digital Strips or something like that. The first person to respond saying they’ll go get this for me will be rewarded with some of the swag we have on hand from various web comic artists and a mention on our show. If Scott charges for the sketch I’ll reimburse you for that and the cost of shipping as well. I hope someone can do this for me since I won’t be able to attend while I’m at ConnectiCon. Thanks!

Shakeup Over the Web Comics Panel at Anime Expo

The Anime Expo that took place last week in California held a web comic panel during which one of the panelists apparently embarrassed his partner. Codi and Cayen both run a web comic site, Draco Eques Tristita, and Codi, the sometimes writer and forum moderator for the site, sat in on the panel during the expo. Apparently during the question and answer portion of the panel Codi was asked about making a success in web comics and his response was not exactly professional. Continue reading

Scott Kurtz Quits Iron Man Challenge

The popular web comic cartoonist Scott Kurtz, creator behind PVP Online, has announced that while he attends the San Diego Comic Con this week he will be running several guest strips in his absence. This effectively disqualifies him from the Daily Grind’s Iron Man Challenge, the online contest daring web comic creators to never miss a single 24 hour cycle of updates for their comic.

This makes Scott the 14th contender to drop out of the challenge. Judging by the post made by Scott on his own site this seems to be a conscious decision.

Yirmumah Pushing Web Comics Forward … Again

Cartoonists have always been a topical bunch. Comic strips, political cartoons, and comic books commonly make reference to what’s going on in the world and the media. However, the realities of print publication often leaves a gap between real world events and the cartoonists’ comments on them.

The web comic offers a unique ability to publish instantly, making topical information readily available and placed in front of eyeballs almost as soon as the cartoonist is finished with the work. Continue reading

RSS Feed Fixed

We were having some trouble with the Digital Strips RSS podcast feed all day today and I finally found the issue. Turns out the “e” in Sebastien’s name was disrupting some of the RSS feed applications out there. It has been fixed and all should be well now. Thanks!
