Oh No, it’s a Robot

Ryan North, the mind behind the always-unique Dinosaur Comics, has decided to flex his tiny T-rex arms in different field. His new venture is not a new comic, but rather a tool to help web comic fans around the Net more easily enjoy their favorite comics.

Have you ever found a comic that you thought was just great and you couldn?t wait to show your friends? By the time you were able to share it though, weeks had passed and by the time you found it again, your buddies have wandered off bored and disgusted?

Well no more my friends. North has put together a new web site called Oh No Robot that will allow for web comic readers to search for particular strips from their favorite series. The service is free, allowing creators to sign up and either transcribe their achieve or have fans do it. You can read all the details for yourself here.

I did a few searches of North?s own Dinosaur Comics and the system seems to work great. I hope everyone takes advantage of this service so that we can all more easily access all the great comic material out there.

Questionable Content Answers Questions and the Last Day to Order some Swag

I managed to scared up some news for Halloween. It’s not actually scary news though, don’t be afraid. Jeph Jaques, the man behind the popular, indie music comic Questionable Content, was interviewed by Chris Dahlen of pitchforkmedia.com. In the interview, posted Friday, Jaques talks about the role T-shirts and other merchandise have played in his being able to work full time on his comic. It’s a pretty interesting article that also talks about Jaques feelings toward the strip, his reasons for doing it and even hints at possible future projects. Check it out here. Speaking of webcomic merchandise, Krishna of PC Weenies reminded readers Continue reading

A Change in the Real Life and More Yirmumah Drama

Greg Dean of Real Life comics has made a change in his life, deciding to pursue a career in the culinary arts. According to an announcement on his site today, Dean is in the process getting things arranged to that he can attend classes at the California Culinary Academy in San Francisco. Dean has also offered a sketch, in the form of Christmas card, to any fan that helps him get the financial side of things organized by donated $25 or more. This is the first time I personally have seen him come out and ask for help with anything. Dean assures fans that he will still try to maintain his 5 times a week schedule.

Even though I didn’t want to rhyme drama with Yirmumah so soon again, that’s what DJ has on his hands. Apparently there were some, well let’s just call them complications, with his taking part in the Sketch Battles. The controversy has been covered pretty extensively on Comixpedia and, of course, Yirmumah. Basically, from what I’ve been able to gather, DJ Coffman was accused of cheating in his sketch battle. After some conflicts with, Sambro, an administrator at Sketchbattle, Coffman decided to simply stop competing. Later, Deemo, another admin, issued an apology for the confusion and trying to straighten things out. I’m not going to comment on who was right or wrong since I really don’t know. You guys can read and decide for yourselves.

Note: the reporter in me really wants to read things from Sketch Battle’s side of things but I can’t find anything. If anyone has a link, I’d like to check it out.

Lessons Learned joins Day Free Press

Just a couple bits of news as I scuttle through my busy day. Day Free Press has added a new comic to its already impressive list of member strips. A Lesson Learned but the Damage is Irreversible has joined sides with the likes of Little Gamers, Dinosaur Comics, White Ninja and others. I’m not to familiar with the comic but I checked it out after seeing it on the group’s web site. From the three I read it should be interesting. It definitely has a unique style that I haven’t seen too much of before. Should be an interesting addition to anyone’s daily checkings.

Nodwick To Hench For Spidey

Aaron Williams of Nodwick, Full Frontal Nerdity (my current favorite name for a web comic) and PS238 has officially his the big time. He announced yesterday on his site that he will be having a script he wrote published by Marvel comics. The story will be available in Spiderman Unlimited #13 (scroll down a little for the info) and will be drawn by Casey Jones and Tim Smith so it should look great.

Whether you love them or hate them, Marvel is the big leagues and this is great showcase for Williams?s talent. He?s already shown his skill for superhero story telling as well as the wry sense of humor needed to do Spiderman justice.

New Style For ‘Scary’

John Allison, the man behind, Scary Go Round, has made a huge change in his art style. Until a while ago all “Scary” strips were created with Illustrator but today he announced that he will be sticking to the new, more traditional style he began using in recent strips.

The following if from the announcement on the Scary Go Round site: I’ve decided not to go back to the Illustrator-drawn comics for the foreseeable future. Hand drawing has opened up all sorts of new areas to me. It’s nice to be able to fill up panels with actual passers-by without having to painstakingly draw every face on the computer.

“Stick” Gets Stuck In Dragon

I know this is actually almost a week and a half late but I just found it today and was really excited about it.

Rich Burlew the man behind Order of the Stick announced earlier that his popular strip will be appearing in Dragon Magazine, starting in December. The comics will be stand-alone strips, featuring Burlew’s popular characters but not interfering with the story presented in the online series.

Order of the Stick is a popular stick figure comic based in the world of the tabletop RPG Dungeons and Dragons. Continue reading
