Caring For A Wiki

In the world of web comics there are so few places that we can call home. From the moment we started putting up squiggly lines we have all understood that those who would follow us will come because they want that quick laugh or the easy access. Such a nature is both the greatest appeal and our worst nightmare. If you don’t update every day or at least when promised you can lose half your readers over night, just because you got caught in a snow storm. At least you’re just as likely to get them back by having an outstanding next strip but the losing and gaining of readers will give even the greatest comic gray hairs, unless you shave.

The Trees Are Crying

I love my comics coming out in portable form. There are very few things better then spending some hard earned cash on some well drawn and well written art. At the last NYCC I couldn’t help but buy the comics of every artist that agreed to let us interview them but even then I missed getting Ugly Hill. Darn that Paul Southworth and all his creative talent for taunting me. Here are some more creators that insist on proving I don’t know how to save.

Shortpacked! – The past two years of shenanigans from David Willis arrives in it’s first print collection Shortpacked! Brings Back the Eighties. Continue reading

Another Year Another Challenge

Last year saw a lot of new events in web comics. One of the biggest was the emergence of Platinum Studios into the medium and there was huge ruckus over whether or not they were coming in to to ruin it. It’s been almost a year and from what I can tell they have done very little to change it. Just what has been their impact so far? The most obvious is the purchase of Drunk Duck and the complete overhaul they performed. Admittedly this has resulted in nothing more then the hosting site being known as one of the more undependable to being very solid. Yet the competition for web comic hosting is tougher then a year ago with Drunk Duck only taking the number two place behind Smack Jeeves.

I’m Back and Here Are the Shout-Outs

It’s been a fantastic 6 weeks and I’ve added a few more pins to my wall map. The only thing I didn’t do is try to meet strangely large amount of Australian web comic artists. Enough of me talking about me and let’s all listen to someone else talk about DS. That’s right, yet another person knows of our greatness and just how talented we are. Derek Coward of Comic Book Noise recently joined the CPN and did what the rest of us should be doing, talking about the DS. In one of his latest podcasts Derek gives us the props and talks about our talking talents while playing a bit from our SARC review.

Last Week of WLWC 2007

We’re in to the last week of our contest and we need your entries. Don’t wait until the last day and give me a headache putting everything up at once. Also if you’ve been reading Comixpedia you know there’s a change in the prizes. We’re going back to the old trusty random winner. How will this work? First the staff will select the strip they enjoy the most. Then all the other submitters will be placed in big pin where a giant old women will spin them until one drops out. That lucky person will walk with 25% of the overall pot. This means everyone has a chance to win!

How To Con, New York Style

This is probably true of almost every Con but I’ve only been to two and both are very different. 2007 was much better then last year but then that’s like saying this egg is better then that one because it doesn’t have an unborn chick in it. Last year was a disaster on a scale only New York can do right. I still had fun but it led to a lot of pre-planning this year.

First let’s say that New York is a great location but a terrible place to hold a convention. All that stuff that makes NYC great (culture, easy to travel, huge city, history, etc.) make it a pain to attend. Continue reading

How Far Can You Walk Into an Achewood?

Time to clean out the gutters and make some announcements. First, if you have been listening to the Podcast you already know this, the next Talkcast is being delayed for a week due to scheduling conflicts. This will be the review of the highly regarded yet officially ignored (by Myself and Brandon) strip of Achewood. We’ve been rounding up the guests to debate to figure out why this strip is so loved and reviled at the same time so come join us on March 14th for our second live show.

WLWC 2007 Week 2

We’re moving into our second week of the contest and the prizes just keep coming in. I didn’t make it home to see everything but I did get visual confirmation of at least two books. The third book was added over the weekend while I was at NYCC. So here’s three more print books for you to drool over:

The Nicest Guy In Web Comics

There are a few people I respect and even less that I admire. Ryan Estrada is someone who impresses me. It’s not hard to figure out why considering everything he has done over the past five years and of course you ask why not do it yourself. Easy, no one else has the motivation or drive to complete a 168 hour comic, much less hop from job to job around the world. What’s he doing now? Well he’s an American doing customer service support in India. Yeah, I laughed for 15 minutes as well but he’s topping it off with two weeks of exploring which he is calling Ryan Estrada: Expeditions!
