As reported by Comics Alliance (and re-reported over on our Facebook page, which you’d know if you Liked us), the two silliest, most awesomest stars ever to hit a computer screen are teaming up and the ensuing blast is sure to melt faces and warm hearts. As a fan of webcomics, as a webcomics creator, as a collector of comic books, whatever your comic inclination, you need to be familiar with the works of Harvey Pekar, who passed away recently. His body of work represents a slice of Americana that will go down as one of the touchstones of the American comic book art form. Here, Jeff Green, formerly of the school of gaming journalism, now at EA, shares a link to some of Pekar’s last work. Not for nothin’, Green is also worth following on Twitter, as he offers insight on all facets of life that comes highly recommended.

Conversations by big names in the business, especially ones about other, big name comics, are always worth listening in on, and this one featuring Spike, Kate Beaton, and Scott McCloud (yes, that Scott McCloud) is another for the record books. It all starts when Kate mentioned a recent XKCD update (and what class, she even includes the comic link):

Iron_Spike @beatonna Wow, that kinda sucks a little. about 1 hour ago via web in reply to beatonna
Iron_Spike @beatonna Not a fan of how the very unique cultural quirks of 1 tribe (Piraha of the Amazon) has been generalized to ALL primitive cultures. about 1 hour ago via web in reply to beatonna
@beatonna If our ancestors were a stupid as this cartoon is trying to suggest, we wouldn’t be here. about 1 hour ago via web in reply to beatonna
beatonna @Iron_Spike jeez, I’m sure the internet has already had a field day with it.. What did you study, Spike? You seem keen on a lot of subjects. 45 minutes ago via web in reply to Iron_Spike
Iron_Spike @beatonna I only formally studied fine art. I watch basically nothing but documentaries (and bad reality TV) while I draw by dumb comics. ๐ 41 minutes ago via web from Pilsen, Chicago in reply to beatonna

scottmccloud @Iron_Spike @beatonna I think Monroe was just riffing on the chatter, not endorsing the myth. (Rollover=its-a-joke-people) My guess, anyway. 38 minutes ago via web in reply to Iron_Spike
@Iron_Spike @beatonna In other words, I see where your coming from, but I think there might be an extra level of irony there. 36 minutes ago via web

Two great stories ended over the weekend, so it is now decided that two more must take their place! And preferably by the same creators, as both Evan Dahm and KC Green are more than welcome on my RSS feed any day.

Zuda Comics Is No More, Some Titles To Continue In Digital Format ~A~ Tweet Thread of the Day Extra
The winds of change have been blowing in Zuda’s direction ever since the competition site decided to drop the competing clause and just become a home for digital creators. Then, DC Comics announced a digital initiative that would see their comics appear on the PSP, PSN, iPhone, iTouch, and iPad. This change seems to have whipped up a hurricane that has decimated the ZudaComics.com domain itself, which will now be shuttered.
It’s still unclear as to which comics will survive this swath of destruction, though you can bet the award winners will make the move. One comic that won’t be migrating to greener (alternate?) pastures is Brock Heasley’s Monsterplex, the winner of the February competition. The following thread explains loosely why, including the heart-breaking reaction to the news straight from someone directly affected by the culling:

Tweet Thread of the Day ~FOR~ Wednesday, June 30, 2010
To welcome me back from my mini summer vacation (the first of many!), we have a delicious trifecta of tweets to start off the middle of the week. First up, my favorite embittered heroine, Wonderella, states her position on the whole Wonder Woman redesign kerfuffle that kicked off the week:
wonderella I don’t care what the other superheroes are doing. I will not be wearing a jean jacket. That is all. 23 minutes ago via Echofon
This is what happens when straight men design women’s attire
Next up, a tubular two-fer from Tycho, one half of the Penny Arcade machine. First, he gives a shout out to the fellas that ran the Mario Marathon over this past weekend, a noble effort to play as many Mario games in a short period of time, all for the purpose of raising money for PA’s Child’s Play charity. Judging from this tweet, it looks like they did a pretty good job:
TychoBrahe The Mario Marathon pulled in almost eighty-two thousand dolla? Nice work, fellas. http://bit.ly/9yOAF 2 minutes ago via TweetDeck
Finally, just a quick ponderance about the new iPhone 4 and its ability to let you see the person you’re calling. ChatRoulette may have just found a new competitor… :
TychoBrahe Apple has a service where you can call them and test out FaceTime on your new iPhone. I wonder how many peepees those people see in a day. 25 minutes ago via TweetDeck
F@NB0Y$ Returns ~WITH~ The Best E3 Strip You’re Likely To See
It’s been nearly a year since the last F@NB0Y$ comic (do not miss having to write that title) was posted, leaving many to forget about Scott Dewitt’s hilarious, amazingly drawn gaming comic. His humor was perfectly sharp, with a razor’s edge that spared no genre or creator, and until this latest strip went live, I’d all but forgotten about just how much I missed it.
You think this is funny? Check out the image link for the full joke!
The recent E3 show provided the perfect opportunity for Scott to flex his gaming parody muscles once again and “Our Dysfunctional E3 Families” proves that few can do it better than he. Welcome back, Scott! I know I can speak for gamers everywhere when I say I hope you stick around for a while.

KC Green, like everybody else in the world, decided to try and get himself a fancy new iPhone 4 (despite the issues that people seem to be having with the miraculous device). The following thread is an account of this experience:
choadmalma i went out to get a new iphone but instead they gave me 4 chocolate bars wrapped together. #andiatethem#chomp 23 minutes ago via TweetDeck
so instead I went for a mac mini and that turned out to be a block of cheese! 21 minutes ago via TweetDeck

Yeah, I could see the confusion. Also, just as tasty as Apple hardware.
