Free manga on the web

Hi everyone! I’m Brigid, the newest member of Digital Strips. Some of you may be familiar with my other blog, MangaBlog. Daku invited me to join the crew here to talk about online manga.

I have a great manga to start off with, but you have to act fast: For the next two days, Tokyopop is making volume 1 of Dramacon available for free on the web. They have been adding one chapter a day, with the final chapter going up on November 8. After that, they will take all the chapters down. Their manga reader is pretty easy to use, but there’s a catch: To read more than the first few pages, you have to register on the site. As annoying as that is, registration is free and they won’t spam you.

Calling All Writers and Artists

If you’ve noticed we’ve lost a couple writers and even the sexiest voice of the podcast. Well now is the time when Digital Strips is looking to expand its staff once again. That’s right, you now have the opportunity to be on the biggest web comic podcast and/or join the staff of writers acclaimed across the universe.

So here it is, we’re looking for 2 people. The first is a writer who knows Manga as I feel that the site does not do it justice considering it may be larger then gaming comics. That means Continue reading

Greek l33t Speak

One of the biggest concepts we have tried to tackle has always been figuring out the right business model. Once you’ve created your web comic what do you need to do to make what you love your living? The first obvious answer is advertising but then most comics have found that is not enough unless you have a huge number of readers. What is the second option? Merchandising of course! To give it a try we have an idea for a t-shirt that might appeal to a large number of not just our readers but the entire web comic community and more. Before we take the time to build a store, design the final shirt, and make ridiculously large orders I want to make sure enough of you out there think I’m not crazy.

I’m Just Drinking: Phil’s Birthday Bar-stocking drive for Podcasting!

Hey, it’s Phil. I don’t get piad to do this, but I do get to totally plug the hell out of my stuff. So here we are. There was a podcast put up today, so there’ll be a new ConnectiCon post tommorow.

We at I’m Just Drinking have been at this for a little bit now, this wiki nonsense. One month to be exact. It’s been going great, got a lot of active people and a lot of recipes brought in. Many of which rock especially hard. But something’s felt missing around here. Something fun and interesting to keep everyone coming back. Then it hit me:

Podcast.

Welcome to the New Digital Strips!

Some of you might have heard the rumors already or maybe figured it out on your own since we weren’t being exactly secretive but we are proud to announce the new Digital Strips. The most obvious change is the front which we hope is more streamlined. The biggest change though is the use of WordPress as our blogging tool which we hope will make your experience every bit as good as DS is for us.

Not everything is finished though and we plan to roll out more of the new site as we go along but we felt that we could not hold back any longer and so here you go. You will find right from the get-go we have two new submission policies for everyone. Continue reading

Support Digital Strips

A couple of months ago I noticed that we were getting less interest in those looking to buy ad space while at the same time more corporations were sending us email wondering what kind of traffic we had in case they wanted to buy space. Of course time has passed and lately we’ve been lucky to have ANY spots taken. Our traffic has never been better and yet we seem to have some disease that keeps everyone away.

This leads me to believe two things. We either don’t offer enough incentive for you to support us our we have a bad structure for buying ad space. Continue reading

Digital Strips is Under Attack!

I’m sorry to report that this very site has been the target of a rather mean spirited attempt to shut us down and it may yet succeed, if only temporarily. As a result I’ve had to shut off access to our comments and prevent new comments from being posted, at least for the time being. I know that the comments section on our site has been an active part of our conversations lately and it’s really sad that I have to do this, but it must be done.
