Contest Comes to a Close

Well, that’s it folks. The contest entry line is now closed. All entries sent before this post went online have been accepted, but no more entries will be accepted from here on out.

We want to thank everyone who sent in a submission, we got a lot of really great material here. Next week we will start posting everyone’s submissions publicly and gathering them into a single contest entry page. This whole thing was a lot of fun and we will certainly be doing something like this again in the future.

We Love Web Comics Contest Coming to a Close!

This is it folks. The We Love Web Comics Contest will be over soon. Today is the last day we will be accepting entries, so if you are still furiously sketching, inking, and coloring better kick it into overdrive. Remember that we are on the East Coast of the US, so if you are in Australia or the UK and you think it’s too late it may not be.

So far, this contest has been quite a success. We have had a lot of fun looking at all the cool and funny comics people have come up Continue reading

Daily Grind update

The number of losers is now up to 6. It’s not quite the fallout Zampzon predicted but I won’t mind if you point that out. They have been dropping out about once a week but even at that rate it looks like this will last for another 50 weeks.

Digital Strips IRC Room

I’d like to announce to everyone the opening of our very own IRC room. It seems we have some fans over on Cadnet and they have very graciously created a room for us and Digital Strips fans to come together and discuss what we do and web comics on general. So, a very special thanks goes out to Sionide and Xenon for setting this up.

First of all, head over the Cadnet homepage to learn all about their excellent IRC network. If you want to connect to our chat room quickly via a Java app simply click here. Or, if you know your way around IRC, you can use any IRC client and connect to irc.cad-net.org port 6667 and jump into the room #digitalstrips.

This is a very cool thing. Watch this site and listen to our show for future announcements about events that we will hold in the IRC room. Maybe we can schedule a weekly time to be there to talk about our most recent show. Daku and myself will be popping in and out throughout the week I’m sure.

Interview of Tom Spurgeon

For many of you reading my news posts you might have figured out one of my main sources of information is The Comics Reporter. I always find Tom’s articles and reviews to be insightful and entertaining and reading through this interview I get the feeling that’s just the type of person he is in real life. If you make your way over to Comic Foundry you can read this interview which was posted last Friday. This interview is especially revealing for me as he answered questions concerning how to critique comics. Continue reading

BifSniff Goes Mini

BifSniff has announced a new way of getting your weekly dose of BifSniff glee. In the announcement you can see how they believe one of the methods rising in popularity is weblogs. There are an ever increasing number of strips, much like our personal favorite Last Drop, which are delivered alongside a blog. Thanks to some free code the guys have written you can have the most recent single panel strip appear anywhere.

UComics syndicates Yenny

I never thought I would hear this happen but it looks like UComics is actually syndicating Yenny. We’ve reported before on Comics Sherpa and our disdain for forcing artists to pay for posting their strip online. It looks like this approach is finally paying off for David Alvarez who also is a member of the Modern Tales group. I never had a chance to get around to Yenny but after reading it thanks to this announcement I’m going to have make an effort to read through the archives.

Web comics in print?

It always comes down to money. How can I, the lonely web comic artist, get more exposure and money? One solution is take your digitize art work and go hardcore. Well, at least start selling your archives in print form. We’ve reported before on the success of Megatokyo but Comixpedia has a nice round-up of several strips doing just that. Perhaps even more enlightening is Mom’s Cancer going into print. This announcement happened shortly after the strip was nominated for an Eisner.
