Zampzon’s Plot

This week’s comic continues a little story-line I’m toying with. I’m pretty happy with how that first panel background came out. It may have been a joke, but don’t think I haven’t thought about organizing an official worshiper’s group to follow Beaver and Steve.

Welton Colbert Vs. Digital Strips

I recently had the honor to collaborate on a comic project with Ryan Estrada, a cartoonist whose work I admire very much. We did a joint comic for this month’s edition of Comixpedia and you can check it out here.

As many of you know, Welton is Ryan’s retired cartoonist character and all around old coot when it comes to webcomics. For this strip, I wrote the Zampzon and Daku dialog and Ryan wrote Welton’s responses. Then he drew the Digital Strips panels and I drew the Welton panels. Continue reading

Silent Kimbly In The NY Press

The power of Ryan continues to expand. Ryan Sias from ‘The Ryans‘, a newly formed webcomic collective made up entirely of members with the name Ryan, has recently announced that his webcomic has made it into print. Silent Kimbly will be appearing in the NY Press, a free weekly alternative paper available in New York City.

Silent Kimbly is a black and white, single panel comic that features the character Silent Kimbly, a little girl dressed as a space adventuring bunny. Continue reading

Melonpool Reboot

With the launch of a new chapter entitled “Serenity Lost“, Steve Troop as rebooted his long running and popular webcomic Melonpool. When we discussed it on our show we noted that the story was extensively deep and complex. Self referential jokes abounded. None of that is necessarily a bad thing, but it sure was daunting for a first time reader to try and jump in.

The intimidating depth to his sci-fi/comedy epic was something Steve has been aware of for some time and his plans to make Melonpool Continue reading

People Are Looking At Us

When we first started Digital Strips we decided that we were going to hold off telling anyone about the site or our show for a while, until we had a few episodes under our belt. The plan was to get like a month’s worth of content online and then start trying to get the word out about what we were up too. That plan fell through within days of posting our first show when we started seeing traffic coming into our site. It’s weird how the internet works, if it’s out there someone, somewhere, somehow will find it. Amazing.

Doonesbury, the Pitfalls of the Buffer and the Benefits of Web Publishing

To describe the comic strip Doonesbury as successful would be a monumental understatement. This year marks 35 years the strip has been in print and it appears today in over 1400 newspapers. Unlike a lot of the syndicated comics out there Doonesbury’s creator Garry Trudeau has embraced the web and what it can help accomplish for him in terms of visibility to an increasingly non-newspaper subscribing public. Trudeau has partnered with the web magazine Slate to make the Doonesbury comic strip available online. Continue reading

Head Injury Theatre Roasts Digital Strips

We received word today that Jared over at Head Injury Theatre has made a little comic about your favorite webcomic podcast hosts and we thought our readers would get a kick out of it as well. You can see it here. Head Injury Theatre has a lot of very funny, and kinda twisted, comics and Jared’s style is original and really interesting. I love the way he drew Daku.

You may recognize Jared’s work from the cover of the Webcomic Hurricane Relief Telethon Book. Continue reading
