You Gotta Admit, it’d be Pretty Hot

I used to wonder why there were so many lesbians in the world of Web comics. Then they wise guru Daku explained it all. Now I understand.

Now don’t get me wrong. I’m not going after Web comic lesbians in general and I’m certainly not going after any one strip. I’m just pointing out it’s a power that I would abuse if give half the chance.

When Scott’s Collide…

If you've never heard people joke about how all you have to do to break into Web comics is be named Scott, now's your chance. I was just over as Scott Johnson's site, Extralife, and it seems Scott Kurtz of PVP will be sitting in on tonight's taping of Extralife Radio. This weeks show is supposed to be all about the world of Web comics so I will be listening intently. They do record the show live over Stickam with a chat room so if you feel like stopping by and spamming the words 'Digital Strips Rocks!' you have my permission.

See that Dead Horse? I'm Gonna Beat It

This isn't going to be a dirty as the headline may lead you to believe.

T Campbell posted an in depth interview with Dragonfiend, apparently some kind of big shot at Wikipedia, a few days ago over at Broken Frontier. There was also an interview with Wikipedia creator Jimmy Wales but it wasn't as long and didn't bring up as many points though. The Dragonfiend interview, however, brought up several issues that I wanted to touch on regarding the whole Wiki vs. Web comics controversy. Thanks for the interview T. It saved me from having to think of something to write about today.

All Those in Favor of a Poop Joke, Say “Aye”

I think by now it's clear that I love audience participation in Web comics. Well David Morgan-Mar of Irregular Webcomics is taking it further than I very thought possible. The project is Infinity on 30 Credits a Day and it's suppose to be a totally community driven Web comic.

People are invited to register and join the team. They can offer characters, dialogue, art or Web site skills. Somehow, through a series of votes they hope to create an epic sci-fi story. Right now they have just finished selecting the main character from a list of 12 possibilities. They're now moving on to selecting the art direction for these characters.

On V-Day, You Can be Cliche

It's Valentines Day and I'm an insensitive jerk so rather than write an emotional, sensitive love letter to my wife, I'm going to write one to Web comics. I just hope she doesn't check this site for a while.

Dear Web comics,

It's The Geek again. You haven't written or called me back yet? I know I spend too much time staring at you. It's only because you're so beautiful. I'm sure you find that a little creepy. It's my own fault, I'm willing to change it you give me a chance. Please write me back, let me know you still care.

Don’t Blame the Web, Blame Grandma!

I was cruising Comixpedia this morning and as usual, Xerexes had a link to an article about Web comics, which had links in it to other articles about Web comics and before I knew it an hour was gone. The sacrifices I make for you people.

Anyway, the main article that started my decent into another wasted day at work was by Justin Fox, the economy columnist for Time Magazine. He didn't seem to be much of a Web comic aficionado himself but offered some insight as to what effect Web comics could have on the traditional newspaper economically. In short: bad things.

Major Spoilers Major List of Major Web Comics

Happy New Year everybody. Hope you and yours are doing well. I for one am looking forward to another year of great Web comicy goodness here at Digital Strips.

Here's something that I thought was worth a gander. Stephen Schleicher, a writer over at Major Spoilers, one of the bigger comic book blogs, has started listing his 57 top Web comics. He's three days into the endeavor and up to 21 with another two (I assume) updates coming. Continue reading

Irregular Doesn’t Mean What You Think it Does

Crap-suck. That's the only hyphenated work I can come up with to describe how I felt when I saw that David Morgan-Mar has decided to quite his daily Lego-fuelled romp known as Irregular Webcomic. New Year's Eve is supposed to be happy, not crap-sucky.

**EDIT** Aparently it was all a big joke. A punch line I didn’t get. Everything is still going as normal over there. If you stopped reading, start again. Next time anyone in Webcomics feels the urge to post a fake I’m leaving strip, tell us first. We won’t let the secret out, but we won’t tell anyone that it’s real either.**/EDIT**?

Niego Strikes Back

In a strange turn of events, I'm not reporting the demise of a Web comic, rather the rebirth. I'm not sure how to feel about this, I feel so out of place.

Anyway one year and a very small about of change after we reported it was leaving the World Wide Web, Niego is back. Jason Sigala will be bringing his strip back on a Mondays-only update schedule. He also stated that for personal reasons he won't be returning to his old Web comic collective, BoxCar Comics.

Beyond that there's not much information on Sigala's site, but it should be more than enough for Niego fans.
