Up until a few months ago I had no idea who the CBLDF was. In my defense it wasn’t until then that they were really making a difference. For past month there has been on-going legal motions to defend retailer Gordon Lee of Legends in Rome, Georgia. Lee faces two counts for the felony of “Distribution of Material Depicting Nudity or Sexual Conduct” and five for the misdemeanors of “Distribution of Material Harmful to Minors”. The CBLDF has filed these motions to dismiss one of the felony counts and two misdemeanor counts based on the fact that they are charges claiming Continue reading

Blank Label Comics
For those who read tea leaves you had to see this coming. We were all witness to the Keenspot exodus and there were just too many great artists leaving at the same time for it to be a coincidence. Here it is: Blank Label Comics. Here we have six artists combining their 10 strips into a all-in-one wonder.

What’s happening at Keenspot?
The past few months there’s been a bit of a shake up at Keenspot. I have no idea what started the small exodus but I’m going to guess it was Schlock Mercenary. That’s right, I’m pointing my finger at you Howard, it’s all your fault that people are leaving and making more money without having someone taking a part of your profits, how dare you! All kidding aside Keenspot has lost: Schlock Mercenary, Shortpacked, It’s Walky, Krazy Larry, and Melonpool. Fear not, for Keenspot always comes out the other end and we can see that with the additions of Penny & Aggie, Mad about U, Todd & Penguin, and Down to Earth.
Update: A day after I post this there’s another shakeup. Greystone Inn is evacuating, although it is ending it’s current theme, along with Checkerboard Nightmare and Wapsi Square.
Greystone Inn comes to an end
Some of you may recall our review of Greystone Inn from one of our earlier podcasts. We very much enjoyed reading it and so we were shocked that everyone in the strip got canned, fired, sacked, terminated, pink-slipped, 86’ed, downsized, axed, or laid off. Then this quite funny strip was followed by something that was pure genius.
Before anyone asks, we did not pay Brad to make this pure brilliance of a strip. The strip did have the perfect forum to make this point: No one reads the papers. So what’s next? Will you give us a web comic about making web comics?
The Trend Continues
It looks like the contestants in the Iron Man competition are starting to drop like flies. Yesterday two more contestants, John Campbell and Erik Goldsby, have been booted. That keeps up the pattern of losing one a week by catching up on a week missed in April. Point of note is I read PvP every day. I was shocked to go there today and find the same strip I read yesterday. Say it ain’t so!
Web Cartoonists’ Choice Awards
Here’s something I can get behind. An award site dedicated to honoring web comics through other web comic artists. Looking through the archives I have to say that many of the winners and nominations were actually pretty good. I’m always one to never listen to critics, yes I realize what I’m saying, but I was pleasant surprised by the quality of strips I found there. So if you’re a web cartoonist be sure to send in your nominations and vote.
Zen of the Web
I think I’m in agreement with xerexes on this one. I would like the idea of the web zen more if there was some kind of explanation on the site. From the title I can only assume that through a collaboration of a lot people with intelligent insight a list of topic relate sites are posted and supposedly these sites transcend that which is the web. Of course I’ve been know to blow a lot of hot air but then if you go to the site you’ll see that I can get away with saying almost anything.
Save the trees
This article was had me laughing too much to let just pass by. It sounds like a short story ripped from a Brave New World. The editorial page editor for the Los Angeles Times, Michael Kinsley, penned a column for the Washington Post. In this article he voices alarm at the severe drops in circulation that was announced last week. You've got to read the highlights of his list of solutions:
- Government subsidies like what is done for agriculture.
- Strategic Newspaper Reserve to reduce the nation’s dangerous dependence on foreign news. Continue reading
Fans comes to an end
After more then six years and being revolutionary in graphic novels when it comes to web comics, the hugely popular strip Fans has come to an end. Fans was one of four strips reviewed by us on our 5th show and is written by T Campbell and more then a few different artists. We will never forget the extreme fandom portrayed nor the unique layout the strip often took, sometimes taking you half a mile down and then half a mile to the right or simply a single panel. Fear not though as you can catch more work as T Campbell plans to print 'The History of Online Comics' through Antarctic Press as “The History of Webcomics.”
Podcast delayed
This is where everyone gets to send me flaming emails. Due to my real life the May 2nd podcast is going to be delayed until tomorrow night instead of tomorrow morning. Be sure to catch it as we will be annoucing the winner of the “We Love Webcomics Contest” as promised. We had many more entries then I expected and they were quite hysterical.
