I'm a big fan of Rich Burlew's strip Order of the Stick. It was one of the first strips I started reading regularly and is still one of the first ones I check on update days. I've wanted to read the book 'On the Origins of the PCs' for quite some time now and thanks to Daku, I finally got my shot.

Review: Inverloch
Inverloch is a fantasy tale that has a lot of appeal even for non-fantasy readers like me. The story is easy to follow, and author Sarah Ellerton creates a universe that is different enough to be interesting but close enough to real life that it's not confusing. With over 660 pages up on the site right now, and new pages roughly twice a week, the story is nearing its climax and many of the initial questions have been answered, making this a good time to jump in and start reading.
My THOUGHTS On A History Of Webcomics V.1 ~OR~ Do It Right
At last, the long-awaited, eagerly anticipated Digital Strips review of T Campbell’s A History Of Webcomics V.1! And the question on everybody’s mind: Will he hate it? Or will he gush with praise of a work so ahead of its time, it should be another ten to twenty years before it’s actually published?
If you can’t tell from that last sentence where I’ll be taking this, let me ask you this question: Who do you feel the intended audience should be for a work such as this? The webcomic community? Or those we would like to educate about our young medium? If you marked through the first selection on your test sheet, then it would be best if you sat down your pencil and left the classroom now. This review isn’t for you. Continue reading
A Darkness So Deep It's Crimson
Whoever said you can only survive 30 seconds in space was not taking into consideration human ingenuity. Augment your respiratory system and you can bump that up till someone rescues you outside the realm of probability. That's how this new web comic enters the world. Crimson Dark, by David C. Simon, is the first web comic to take advantage of the new advertising campaign and I couldn't have been happier. It's a science fiction graphic novel form strip which centers on the female character Commander Kari, a hero who has retired herself away from the front lines to patrol runs is just beginning to find out heroes are not so easily shelved.
A word… On More Online Entertainment
In our domain, many a hobbyist has found their creative outlet to remove themselves from their work a day world in this vast internet of comic virtue. For most it is all that is required and certainly all that can be handled, but there are a precious few who have found that not only can they handle their Web Comic, but the comic itself is not outlet enough for them.
Nate Peikos, is such an individual. Most of us know him as the founder of Blambot.com, where he creates premium quality comic fonts, but our dear Mr. Peikos has found a way to be much more. Continue reading
Raise the Woof! ~OR~ Review of Dog Eat Doug
So, I’ve been asked why it is that I don’t report on more news with this valuable space I occupy here at Digital Strips. Basically, I stand on the webcomics stage, performing my craft but wanting to take that chance and emerge on the other side of the curtain with my fellow creators, where secrets are revealed, lessons are taught, and friendships are forged.
Sadly, that day has yet to come. And until it does, I have few to no webcomic creator buddies whom I can squeeze scoops or exclusives out of. Reporting on news that has been broken or simply touched Continue reading
Dork Tower Get Harvey Nod
I’m back. Well not really, in a geographical sense I’m still gone. But I’m settled down for a bit and have a dialup connection and I’m sick of sitting on the sidelines so in a limited way, I’m back and happy to be so.
Because I only have dialup, I haven’t been able to follow all my usual strips for the last month. Today I finally decided to check and see what Dork Tower was up to these days. As it turns out, not much. Apparently John Kovalic has had his hands full of late and has been able update his strip as much as he (and his fans) would like.
A Word… On A Personal Favorite
There is a comic out here on our vast internet that has secured a fond place in my heart, but yet fallen to the way side of many web comic discussions. I am referring to Blank Label’s, Ugly Hill by Paul Southworth. In his strip Mr. Southworth has created a loveable cast of characters in a familiar made up world where all the basic rules of our own apply. The format he has chosen is that of a standard gag strip three to Five panels long (horizontally). All Strips are drawn with just the right amount of detail and design for the level of seriousness he attempts to achieve, Continue reading
Evolution Of An Artform
Ah, so many reasons to keep from posting for such a long, long time. Reasons that I’m sure you, the webcomic enthusiast/creator could care less about. So on with the insanity!
The webcomic, “The Pet Professional“, has been around for a little more than a year now, garnering a good deal of support early on from friend-in-high-place Scott Kurtz and a one-shot (literally) comic strip format that’s as easy to digest as it is to forget. A few months ago, Jason Salsbury, the aforementioned creator of PetPro, announced that his artist, Matt Kaufenberg, was moving onto other things and so the call went out for a new artist.
Genesis 2 Tackles Evolution
We all like web comics that entertain but an art form can never mature until it does more then make you laugh. Editorials and opinion strips are an excellent example of strips which have elevated syndicates to the respected position in newspapers they currently have. This is where strips such as Genesis 2 steps in. In this strip we have Dan Beeston tackling the previously non-controversial but currently hot topic of Intelligent Design. From Dan:
Genesis 2 … is an explanation of evolution in an approachable form. My goal is to do more with the medium than simply entertain. I’m always trying to push it further and further.
