There’s just something about Web comics competitions with ten contestants that we just can’t seem to resist. Instead of Zuda Watch this time though, we turn our eyes to those trying to be the Web Comic Idol 2008 winner. We recorded this show on Sunday which was before the first cuts were made and some of the strips we loved are already gone. We can’t help but feel a little bit responsible. Don’t let more good strips die, listen in and find out what we thing should take the crown for this year.

Former Zuda Contestant ~GETS~ Gig On Art For Mecha Bible Comic Book
I love webcomics. You can’t make this stuff up.
JMG Comics’ new robot Bible epic, Mecha Manga Bible Heroes, has changed artists after just one issue. The new artist will be Josh Alves, who previously caught our attention in the Zuda Comics competition with his entry, The Arachnid Kid.
Much as I said back when we ran that Zuda Watch, the art on Arachnid Kid has some rough edges, but an up-and-coming comic book like MMBH is the perfect place for Alves to work out any minor kinks in his style. The same could be said for the series’ previous artist, Thom Pratt, but who knows? We could be seeing his name on an upcoming Zuda Watch!
So good luck to Josh on this epic endeavor and check out the Good Comics for Kids blog, for which Brigid and I both write, for more on Mecha Manga Bible Heroes!
You’ll Have You’ll Have That for Just Two More Month
I have to take a quick break from a busy night of editing the next episode of Digital Strips, working on my Nanowrimo for this year, dealing with what historians will surly refer to as the great video game glut of 08 and trying to decide how to vote tomorrow to bring you some sad news. Wes Molebash has decided to call it quits on his popular and polished strip “You’ll Have That.â€
According to a post he made one his blog today, Wes said that he is planning to have YHT wrapped up by January 2nd. At least we’ll have one more Christmas with our friends. A new strip is planned to take off in February.
This is especially sad for me as YHT has been a daily (or thrice weekly) part of my life almost since I got into web comics year ago. The squeaky clean adventures of Andy and Katie have been the comics that I’ve most often shared with my wife because it’s one of the most accessible strips on the Net.
I guess this means that for at least the month on January 2009 the position of “Nicest Guy in Web Comics†will be up for grabs. If you’re interested, send me some brownies, I’ll spread your name around a bit.
