The intrepid group of web comic creators who jumped the Keenspot ship to form Blank Label Comics have just posted a video to their site that I’m sure everyone will get a big kick out of. The video short is designed to look like the old news reels from the 40’s and 50’s and announce the formation of Blank Label Comics. The footage includes video of each of the creators and a launch party they held for their site. The video is very tongue in cheek and light on any actual details, but it is sure worth a download. The narrator has the joke down perfectly, very funny stuff.

Outer Circle Reaches 100 Strips
The very clever web comic The Outer Circle has reached 100 strips today. In celebration of the milestone Steve Napierski, the strips creator, is attempting a series of comic trip art homage panels. Over the next few days of his strip he will be attempting to mimic the art styles of many different popular comics. Today’s update includes a panel in which Steve draws his characters to look like Fox Trot cartoons. This looks like a lot of fun. I think Steve is doing a great job and I look forward to seeing what else he comes up with.
Association of American Editorial Cartoonists see the light
You had to see something like this coming. It would appear that just maybe print cartoonists are starting to see more of the light that’s so blinding we’re amazed this hasn’t happened before. The AAEC has gone live with its own site. On it you’ll find works from current members along with cartoonists bios, news, prints, books, and of course cartoons. It looks like Cagle may be getting some competition, finally.
As fans of web comics we like to say events such as this are inevitable but the truth is the print industry has been slow Continue reading

Using Penny Arcade in an Etiquette Presentation
I don’t know whether to laugh or cry. Xerexes pointed me over to a presentation by a Ben Hammersley delivered to an audience in Copenhagen. The presentation concerns micropublishing and coffeehouse culture in Enlightenment England and the current state of blogging. Is this a perfect topic for Last Drop?
I See Your Smack Down and Fold
It looks like Scott McCloud has recovered from the red he was seeing. He has decided to remove his essay demanding an apology and explained the posting as a lapse in judgment due to his need to defend friends. Does this mean the end of the drama? Websnark is predicting Sunday will be last day we hear about this.
Lulu awards
The Lulu awards nominees were announced last week. These awards are meant to bring honor and recognition to the most inspiring and noteworthy women in the comic book industry. There are four awards (Hall of Fame, Kim Yale, Distinction, and the Lulu) with many notable artists up for the Kim Yale award. Also the artist for Narbonic, Shaenon Garrity, is up for the Lulu of the Year award.
Keenspace Changes Name to “Comic Genesis”
This story was sent in to us from Brian Simpson via a post by Teammayhem on Korsil.net:
Keenspace will be getting a new name. The new name, Toonspace, was smacked down by the artists on the thread, and they were allowed to get a new name. Thus, the new name will be ComicGenesis. A quick WhoIs search turns up that the name is indeed registered to Keenspot.
I See Your Bitch Slap and Raise You a Smack Down, Documentary Drama Plods On
No need to recap, all the details on this web comics documentary was only a few posts ago, so scroll down if you don’t know what I’m talking about.
We have a few updates in the latest unfolding internet drama. First and foremost is a public reply to the comments made by Tycho of Penny Arcade from one of the creators seen in the film, Cayetano Garza Jr. In a post to his personal blog Cayetano states, “… i’ve tried to keep my blog and my life unsullied of the egotistical ramblings of a couple of Continue reading
Guest hosts T Campbell and Dave Belmore
We promised everyone we would be experimenting with different formats and this summer will be packed full of them. Last week’s interview with Kristofer Straub and David Willis was a huge success and is only the first in a string of podcasts with our listeners in mind.
Our next two podcasts will feature guest hosts who will not only give their opinions on what we review but also choose comics on their own for us to take a look at. This should give us access to strips the two us might not come across. Our first guest hosts will be T Campbell of Penny & Aggie and Dave Belmore, owner of Ironhorse Comics and co-author of Didymous. T and Dave run a great podcast, called Meanwhile, which focuses more on the comic industry as a whole.
