I'm in college. I'm married. In short, I'm poor. That's a big thing that got me into web comics in the first place, the price. Now I stay for the awesome but you'll never hear me complain that web comics don't cost enough.
But there's a group of people out there who are helping promote web comics along with many other forms of free entertainment and culture. However, they do it out of moral conviction rather that just being cheap losers like me.
?The group is called Free Culture and they're numbers are growing. I found out about them because they're holding a Web comics Symposium this weekend at Swarthmore College in Pennsylvania. They've recruited some heavy hitter from the Web comics world to speak including Howard Tayler of Schlock Mercenary, Narbonic's Shaenon Garrity, Rich Burlew from Order of the Stick and Eric Burns and our own Wednesday White.
Since the Symposium on the East Coast I won't be going, but if you're in the area check it out. Also take a look at Free Culture's Web site, see if there's anything going on in your neck of the woods. They seem to keep pretty busy promoting free culture, copyright issues and the like. All important topics for our day.
Finally I know Midnight already talked about the donation drive for Paul Taylor. At such times we can give back to those who give us so much for free. Read Midnight's post below mine and act accordingly.
