We got an interesting press release today announcing the upcoming animated series for Ctrl+Alt+Del, the very successful gamer comic by Tim Buckley. The animated series will debut online in February of 2006, consisting of a brand new 4-5 minute animated short every month. All new material, fully animated, featuring professional voice actors. This is a very big move for a webcomic and we can’t wait to see how this turns out.
An online trailer for the upcoming series can be seen here: www.cad-animation.com.
Here is the full press release: “Blind Ferret Entertainment (“BFE”) is proud to announce the development and distribution of Ctrl+Alt+Del: The Animated Series. Financed entirely by Blind Ferret Entertainment, The Animated Series is scheduled for launch February 1st, 2006. The trailer for episode one is now available to fans at www.cad-animation.com .
Created by Tim Buckley in 2002, the online comic, Ctrl+Alt+Del, can be found at www.ctrlaltdel-online.com and attracts over 300,000 readers to its website each day.
“I?ve always been a big fan of Ctrl+Alt+Del and it?s exciting to work on such a unique project with Tim Buckley.” Says Randy Waxman, President and CEO of Blind Ferret Entertainment. “Seeing an opportunity, we approached (Tim) Buckley with the concept of creating an animated series based on his popular comic strip. We knew his characters would translate well if brought to life in an animated series.”
“I had been approached by other companies before about animating the Ctrl+Alt+Del universe, but BFE was the only team with the experience and skills to turn this into a reality. We?ve been working very closely, and I couldn?t be happier with the show we?re putting together.” Says Ctrl+Alt+Del creator Tim Buckley.
“While we?re making full use of all the new media technologies at our disposal, this series doesn?t look like a typical animation you?d see online. With a traditional 2D style, a professional voice cast and a lengthy development period, we?ve achieved television quality animation that will blow away anything else seen on the web these days.” Says Ryan Sohmer, BFE Vice President and Series Director.
One new four-minute episode will be released every month beginning in February. “Television is our ultimate destination. We know what appeal Ctrl+Alt+Del has to the key demographic sought after by Network Executives. These episodes will be our pitch, as a pilot, to those networks.” Says Waxman.
Ctrl+Alt+Del: The Animated Series will be available exclusively online at www.cad-animation.com.”
We’ll have more details as they become available.
I gotta admit – I\’m more than a little impressed and quite frankly, somewhat jealous!
I think Tim has a really smart head on his shoulders – a mind for business that\’s served him well. This animated series is something most creators would kill for and it\’s a huge leap forward in terms of bringing CAD to a wider audience.
I knew I should have kissed his ass a little more back when we were both in Dayfree Press! 😀
This is big, it\’ll be cool to see him take on some longer story lines.
I\’d really like to see this happen for a lot of other web comics. Let\’s hope this is only the first of many.
We\\\’re hoping so, too. We\\\’d love to produce more of these 😉
Wow. That was really well animated. I\’m jealous.
